Kimber’s Challenge Day 22 Inspired by a song

This was an easy category because I often do manicures based on songs and have been waiting to do this one.   Let me just say.  It took so long I can’t believe it.  It is so hard to stamp on black nail polish, but I was determined because I knew what I wanted to do.  I could see it in my head but like I said I forgot how hard it is to stamp certain colors on black.  So, the song I chose was “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn” by Poison.  I love this song.  I really like Bret Michaels too.  He is just a really cool guy.  I watched all his shows on VH1 and was so proud of him when he won Celebrity Apprentice.  I don’t know if a lot of people know this but he has juvenile diabetes.  He has to inject insulin.  He does so much for the Juvenile Diabetes Association.  He is a father  and very different from his days in Poison.  He is just a down to earth guy with two daughter he loves.
So, “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn”  is a bittersweet love song about a girl he was deeply in love with but she was a stripper and would not quit stripping and they broke up.  Bret was heart broken and wrote this song and the lyrics are so true about everyone.

Every rose has it’s thorn, just like every night has it’s dawn, just like every cowboy sings a sad sad song, every rose has it’s thorn.  Even the most beautiful rose has a flaw.  it has thorns.  Just like us we all have flaws no matter what and we just need to accept them.  No one is perfect and there is no way we can be.  Every rose that grows naturally will always have thorns.

There is only one way to see the whole manicure and that is finger by finger so I took pictures of each finger.

Kimber’s Challenge Day 21 Based on a Color

This Challenge was a little harder that I thought it would be.  I started with purple, then blue but ended up with pink.  I used several polishes to get this look.  I used Butter London, Teddy, OPI Mod About You,  OPI Pink Wednesday, American Apparel Coney Island,  OPI Steady As She Rose.  I used the saran wrap method.  Now, they make this look really easy but it is not.  What I learned to finally get the look was that you have to really wait for your polish to dry before you use the next coat.  It also was a little harder because it was the same color, but I was determined.  I finally got the look and used a polish I frankened on my ring and thumb.  I was pretty happy with this and decided to use this manicure instead of the other ones I used.   So, here is my offering to the challenge PINK.

What do you think of the saran wrap mani?  Have you tried it and if you have what was your experience with it.

Polish Day 15 a-England Tess D'Arbonville

I know I missed a day but I will post Day 16 later today. So, a-England's Tess D'Arbonville is really a black with green flecks. I am not too impressed with this campaign because all the polishes look the same. The only one that looks different is Dorian Grey. It is gorgeous but I don't think you need to have every single one. Like with the other two campaigns. This one is just weak. I don't feel they put much into being creative and giving us something that we are wowed with. I am usually wowed when I see swatches of a-England but not so much with these.

So, what do you think of the new a-England line?  Will you buy all the colors, one or none at all.

Sunday is Funday

Sunday is always the same thing.  As an old married couple my husband and I get into our routines.  We always wake up, go to Ihop and go do weekly shopping for the house.  We abide by Sabbath customs on Saturday by not working at all.  We usually just watch television, take a nap, play with Goldie, it is like our family time.  But Sunday, is a funday because we go shopping and he is really good about that we usually do my thing first because if we don't for some reason after the first store he gets really tired.  So, we go return something to Macy's because I refuse to try clothes on a dressing room and for some reason our Macy's is so hot.  I can't stand it.  I usually order online and if I need to return we go in and out.  Then Ulta is right across the street from the mall so we go there.  he looks at cologne and I look at everything.  If we wake up early we go down to the Montrose area where the American Apparel is and a lot of little second hand stores.  I can't get him in the Galleria so that is something that is reserved for friends and my sister.  Last week on Friday I did this manicure and all day long I was out of it.  I just kept staring at it because of the color changes in the polish.  I loved it.  My husband was holding my hand and pulls it up to his face and starts looking at it and says I know I am color blind but this polish is freaking me out it keeps changing.  I explained to him what a duo chrome was.  He said I like that.  He just said kids today have so many neat things we did not have.  I said, "Honey, we are still kids".  He just shook his head and said, "Yeah, you're right."

For this manicure I used Ludurana Violet Blue, then I stamped using Cheeky plate 16 (both images are on the plate) with Konad Black Pearl Stamping plate.

What do you think about duochromes?  Do you like them or do you just hate them?

KB Shimmer Elle Revisited

I know that I have reviewed this one but when I did I put no panties on it and I am totally convinced that a lot of polishes need panties.  I used American Apparel Echo Park .   I went to American Apparrel today to buy some polish.  I really like their polish because of the fact that they have a thick consistancy and need only one coat when you are using as panties.  Plus they have some great colors and if you go to the store right now and sign up to be on their mailing list you get a free polish.  Can’t beat that.  Free and yes I did go get my Free panties from Victoria's Secret but did take advantage of the $10.00 of a bra.  Might as well.  When I had my gall bladder removed, God bless my mother but she did all my laundry and I REALLY HATE anyone to do my laundry because they don’t take care of my clothes the way I do.  I have jeans that are still in style, they still fit and look brand new because of the way I do my laundry.  I am a bit of a cheap skate like I said yesterday but I want to take care of my things so I don’t need to replace them and spend money on the same thing over and over.  Like I never put my bra’s in the dryer because of the underwire but my mom does not care.  She hangs things inside down and I am looking for some of my winter clothes and I can’t find them.  I actually had a shirt that was lost in my own apartment because someone did my laundry.   I found it but lost another one.  I hate it.  My husband does not know this but the polish room is going to have all my stuff in it.  My clothes, makeup, shoes and handbags.  I’ve been working on slowly moving everything and have definitely been doing my manicures in there but I have a question?  What is your blogging routine.  I like to spend the day in there and come up with ideas right them down and do two or three manicures in one day but I have been getting headaches every day.  Could it be the acetone?

This is Elle without panties.  I think it looks much better with the grey underneath.  JUst showing that when you have polishes like this a pair of panties does make a difference.  I can see the difference and I am going to make sure I put a color underneath that comes close to my indies just to bring out the beautiful color in these polishes.

Daytime Chic

This manicure I created especially for those times that you want to just look understated but still have a little something on your nails.   I used BM 314 with China Glaze Fast track and stamped with Maybelline True Colors in Bold Gold.  That is the best gold stamping polish I have ever used.  Once again, I did a monochromatic which I just love.  This manicure goes to work or even a night on the town.  If I was going to wear it out though I would put a coat of China Glaze Fairy Dust.  I really love that polish it is a great holo glitter.

Polish of the Day 14 Models Own Pinky Brown

Pinky Brown is part of the first Beetlejuice collection is one of the most popular of the collection and is really pretty when you can see the duo cchrome in it. It goes from brown to purple to pink.  This is a polish that looks so much better in person than on camera.  The formula smooth and dries fast .  Two coats of Seche Vite is recommended to really pull the shine out.  I only have one coat but one more would have really looked great.

OPI Press Release Mariah Carey's Line and Swatches

I found this on an OPI website.  It was shown in Canada so I am not real sure if their information will be the same as the US info.  The colors will be the same but release dates can be different and I hope that OPI is not raising their prices to $10.50 a bottle.

Hey, Nicki Minaj, guess what? Mariah’s collaborated with OPI now, too, for her own collection of nail polish — and it’s pretty cool. The eight-shade Mariah Carey by OPI lineup launches in January 2013, a year after the Nicki Minaj OPI set of polishes debuted. The breakdown includes a frosty shade, a creamy shade, a shimmer, a glitter-flakes polish, and four colours with a nifty “Liquid Sand” finish.

“It’s textured nail polish,” OPI executive VP and artistic director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann told a room full of Canadian beauty editors and bloggers this afternoon at the Trump Hotel in Toronto.

“You don’t have to do anything to it, you don’t have to add anything… this is actually how it comes out of the bottle. You don’t put a top coat on it because the matte look is what actually makes it unique [sic],” she said.

“It does take a little bit longer to dry, probably about eight minutes or so, and then you see how the texture comes to the surface.” The four OPI Liquid Sand shades are The Impossible (a sparkly matte fuchsia –sorry, looks more red here), Can’t Let Go (sparkly matte purple), Get Your Number (sparkly matte blue) and Stay the Night (matte black with red sparkles).

From the top, A Butterfly Moment (frosty tan nude), Sprung (shimmery copper), Pink Yet Lavender (pink glitter with lavender shimmer) and Anti-Bleak (deep, creamy purple — and my new obsession).

Look! The Impossible has star confetti in the glitter mix!

The Mariah Carey by OPI collection ($10.95 per polish) will be in salons and spas in January.
What do you think? Can you wait until January? What shade catches your attention most?
