November Favorites

Let me just say.  November was a heavy month for nail polish.  I still haven't shown all the November polish I have gotten.  It was crazy.  I think that I tend to order more polish when I am bored or depressed.

My number five favorite polish was Butter London's Cake Hole.

Number four was the yellow and gray gradient.

My number three manicure was the one I did for Kimber's challenge.

My number two favorite manicure had to be KB Shimmer's Cocoa Nut.  I don't know what it is about this polish but I love love it.

My favorite November manicure had to be when I wore Jade's Magica and Lynnderella Pentimento on top.  I got so many compliments and I just loved the way it looked.  I actually wore it for three days which usually does not happen for me.

So those are my favorites maybe you can share your favorite manicure from your blog with us.

It is that time again

Yes, it is that time again...cold and flu season.  You can avoid a flu by getting a flu shot but what about a cold.  To this day there still is NO cure for the common cold.   You just have to ride it out.  So many parents take their children to the doctor the minute they get a sniffle.   Now, yes you can take medicine the symptoms  of the cold, but nothing to actually get rid of the cold.  The cold is caused by a rhinovirus that lives in your nose under the right conditions it will become active and cause a cold.  No antibiotic will get rid of a virus, antibiotics only kill bacterial infections.  When you give your child an antibiotic for every little ailment you run a high risk.  When a doctor diagnoses you with a viral infection your bodies white blood cells go to work to overtake the virus that is what throws your body off.  There is a battle in your body.  When doctors realize you have a bacterial infection they prescribe what is called a Broad Spectrum antibiotic.  If you notice ampillicin seems to be the most prescribed antibiotic because it works for almost everything.  Over use will cause problems because your body then creates antibodies that work against the Broad Spectrum antibiotic.  Then you might be in trouble because then the doctor needs to find an antibiotic that is specific for your illness whatever it may be, which means blood tests, x-rays etc.  In other words more money.  We are all different and what works on me might not work on you.  Just a quick example, my husband is allergic to penicillin, I am not.  So, when it comes to taking care of infections it is much easier (and cheaper) to find the right antibiotic for me.  I won't take an antibiotic unless I have an infection a cold is not an infection but if you don't take care of the symptoms it can develop into an infection like bronchitis, strep throat, a sinus infection etc.  This is when you need to take an antibiotic.  The best way to keep this from happening is to contain any drippings.  Colds are very contagious so when you sneeze you need to make sure to cover your mouth and not with your hand you need a good tissue, like Kleenex.  Mucus from your nose needs to be cleaned often also with tissue and hands need to be washed if you can't wash then you can use an antibacterial cream like Kleenex antibacterial lotion.  I always carry antibacterial lotion in my purse.  I use it to clean toilet seats in public bathrooms,  it also works as a deodorant in a pinch.   I know I am against using things that are not for specific parts of your body but this is not going to cause any harm because of the part of the body we are talking about.

We know so much about the common cold, no cure but lots of ways to alleviate the symptoms of a cold.  I was pretty lucky growing up that I had three grandmothers.  My maternal, and a paternal grandmother and great grandmother.  Now, each had their little cures for the symptoms of a cold.  My maternal probably was on the best track with chicken soup and lots of juice.  My grandma suffered from severe depression and was not really able to cook.  My mother did the cooking but grandma was allowed to open a can of chicken noodle soup and heat it up and that is what she would do and make sure I was laying down in bed with plenty of water because she knew once you get a fever that is a sign of infection and time for an antibiotic.  Now, dad's side of the family had some pretty strange cures for a cold. My grandmother lived in the main house and my great grandmother lived in a little house next to my grandmother's.   My grandmother usually made me this really good tea with some herbs from her garden,  I finally figured it was lavender and basil it felt good because the steam unclogged my nose but wait now here comes the strange part.  She would then grab some more herbs and whack my body with them.  It didn't hurt it just kinda tickled..  Then here comes my great grandmother to get mad at her daughter saying she did not know anything.  Underneath her arm was a bottle of brandy.  She would get a small glass and put about and ounce of brandy in a small cup and told me to drink it.  Meantime, grandma and great-grandma start fighting till great grandma wins the fight saying she is everyone's mother and her daughter will shut up and leave her alone.  Then she kindly looks at me and says drink.  So, I drink and she says to drink it all at once, so I do.  Then coughing starts and I a smile comes upon my face great- grandma says you feel better, I say yes.  Then great-grandma grabs a box of Kleenex and walks me to bed and I go to sleep.  Then my parents pick me up and my father asks did grandma give her brandy and his mom says yes.  He laughs takes me home lays in my bed.  Mom comes in with some juice and roll of toilet paper.  I look at her and the toilet paper and she says that is for if you have to blow your nose.  What?  Toilet paper?  Take me back to the grandmas they have kleenex.  The funny thing is that I have the toilet paper and there is a roll of paper towels in my bathroom.
Kleenex knows that when you have a cold you just want some comfort so they are giving away a share package to one lucky winner

Gradient with Nail Tape

I did this a couple of weeks ago and forgot I did it.  I used polish from my Safari collection.  I used Close Encounters, Kalamiss Kiss and Safari Sun.  I used the lightest color first which was the Kalamiss kiss and then put the tape just in random places on my nails.  Then carefully sponged on the polish.   Immediately I took the tape off and this is what I came up with.

I like this manicure but it is very difficult to work with the tape for me right now.  I am practicing because I want to do a quilted manicure by the end of the month.  We will see if I can do it by the end of the month.

Peacock Park Whimsical

Again a beautiful polish that personally I have no complaints about.  I love it.  I usually buy the lighter colors and this is the first bold color I have bought from Whimsical and I don’t know what has made me shy away from these bold colors.  The glitters are almost the same color as the polish which makes it not too flashy and I like that.  If teal is your color it is a safe bet that you will like this one.

Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad

I bought a lot of polish this month simply because it was on sale all over the place but when I bought Butter London’s Cake Hole and then China Glaze’s  Glistening Snow came in I thought “Oh, no!”  they are exactly alike.  Then I though about OPI Coronation.  Luckily they were not dupes.

the dupe
On the far left is Cake hole, Middle is Glistening Snow, and the last finger has the OPI.  All are different as you can tell.  It is almost as if they are in order Cake Hole has the largest glitter,  glistening snow has a medium size glitter and Coronation has a fine glitter.

Then there was SpaRitual’s It’s Raining Men and Model’s Own Indian Ocean.  Definitely not dupes also

.The dupes 2
These look like dupes but are not the SpaRitual is on the index and ring finger and Model’s Own on thumb and pinkie.  The SpaRitual is  much darker than the Model’s Own.  I did not use undies on either one.

Here are the dupes and you would not believe which one's they are on the left is butter London Blagger and on the right Ciate Skinny Jeans.

Definitely dupes I was really sad but it is ok that just means I get to order another one.  The difference is in price is only $1.00 so I'll get another Ciate and continue to order Blagger and if butter London decides to drop Blagger you can always get Skinny Jeans by Ciate.

Polish of Day 55 No More Waity Katie Butter London

Well, Ms. Middleton sealed the deal in April by becoming the Duchess of Cambridge now she is sure to hold a place in the royal family with the announcement of her pregnancy.  If Queen Elizabeth dies then the throne goes to Charles but for some reason I can’t see Charles as king for very long.  I see William as king for a long time.  Poor Harry now has to wait, but do you think Harry ever really wants to be king?  Hell, no, not when you can party naked in Vegas.  Gotta love Harry…Party on Harry you’re going to really have the good life now because I am sure the Duchess and Duke will add at least one more to their brood.  Good for us more naked pictures of Harry.  Don’t you just love him.  He is living the life of a king without ever having to worry about being one.

Do You Miss Your French Manicure Try This

Several months ago I saw a picture of a French manicure but it did not look like the normal french manicure. I saw something similar to it on Chalkboard nails. I figured out a way to do it and this is what I came up with.

I did a gradient.  I used Essie's Brooch the Subject and OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls.  I had been trying to get this to work out and the key is patience.  I made sure the neutral color was dry and even after it was dry I used a coat of the Nubar top coat.  Then I sponged on the colors very carefully.  It is a delicate manicure and it must be delicately done.  It might have also been finding the right base color but I was quit pleased with the results.  I waited a while and then put the top coat on.

So, what do you think?  Would this be something you would wear?

Polish of Day 54 Layla Turquiose Soft Touch

I saw this polish and went wild.  Holo soft touch like the suedes.  The formula on this polish is actually pretty great.  I dries fast, so that will be 2 minutes to apply and go.  No top coat necessary.  This is a great new polish to my collection.  I really like it.  I had a coupon for $5.00 off.  Each bottle is  $9.75.  I bit the dust and bought two.  I almost got buy two get one free but it turned out these polish were not included in the promotion.  Darn.  Well, I still got $3.50 off coupon so I can go get a neutral one.

Polish of Day 52 Jade DĂ©jĂ  Vu

This is Jade DĂ©jĂ  Vu is a fuchsia holo.   The formula is great, the price is right.  What else is there to say this is a beautiful holo.  I like the way they dry and the way they look on.   I am bound to be buying more of these.

Polish of Day 53 Essie Brooch the Subject

This is the perfect nude in my opinion.  I have had this polish for several months and never tried it. I meant to but with other things coming up I did not order it.  I finally order it and it stays on the shelf I put it on and said this is the perfect nude.  Essie is very good at making nudes.  This is three coats that dried relatively fast.  The thing I like about this polish also is that I love stamping and it is a great stamping base.  I did not stamp this one though but I did do something.

Yes, You Can Get Them Wet

I did this manicure a couple of weeks ago but did not test it out.  Last week I decided to test it.  So, I painted one hand with one coat of Color Club Revvolution.  I wore it to sleep.  I woke up twice to go potty and washed my hands both times woke up in the morning to wash my face.  Ate breakfast, putzed around the apartment doing some light chores and it did last through the whole day.  I did this with embossing powder not flocking.  Embossing has shorter hair and is a little rougher than flocking powder although I did hear that the Born Pretty store sold some flocking powder that stayed on even after washing your hands.  I ordered some of that to see how it worked out.  The embossing powder worked really well and it really looks like the velvet  manicure.  I really like it and will wear it out very soon.

It looks a little like salt and pepper but it is really glitter.  I like these because they are easy to do and real eye catchers.  What do you think love them or Leave them?

Polish of Day 51 Dahling by Butter London

I know I have missed some days but I will keep making them up and my goal is to make 365 in 365.   This is Butter London’s Dahling.  It was a Macy’s exclusive I believe last year and the color is what you would call a “true English rose”.   I was making a blanket in this exact color right before my mother-in-law died and I haven’t been able to go finish it.    I was crocheting it but somehow after she taught me to knit I just wanted to knit.  I finished the blanket some months ago I need to add it to my Pinterest boards.  I really need to update those boards.  I just for some reason don’t have the time I had before yet nothing has changed except I got into the polish room.  I am dying to take you all on a tour of it but while I have a house guest I can’t, just because I would not infringe on her privacy.  I feel like I said that before.  It is just that it is really fun to be in there.  So, Dahling is a creamy English rose.  The formula is great but after reviewing the LancĂ´me polish I don’t know if anything can compare.  Tomorrow I am gathering my mail haul for November for review.  I will also be doing my November favorites.  So, watch for those.  Ring from Charming Charlie’s,  I love that place.

Just Add Milk Whimsical by Pam

This is from Whimsical Fall line.  I just love it.  I don’t think I have bought a polish from this line that I have not liked.  Of course I put undies on.  I put two thin coats of the polish with it.   I can’t wait to wear it.  I just swatched it and then took it off.  I hate that I will definitely wear it sometime this week.  I just love the glitters some are matte and some are glittery.  It is kind of like a chocolate chip cookie on your finger.  It is the closest  I have gotten to a chocolate chip cookie in a long time.   This polish is like most jelly like polishes.  It takes a just a bit longer to dry.  I have been using Nubar Diamond Top Coat and I love it.  It dries so fast and hard it is perfect for this formula.  There are several other great colors that Pam has put out  you need to check them out.  You can find her on her Facebook page and directions on how to order.  This polish runs $10.00 a bottle.

So, this is just such a cute polish you can’t help but maybe have it take you back to your childhood.  Another winner from Pam
