What’s A Girl To Do?

So, what do you do if you win a little money say at the racetrack.  All your bills are paid and it is just wild money.  You do what any polishaholic does.  You go buy an expensive bottle of nail polish.  Well, at least that is what I did.  My husband and I went to the racetrack and won a little money.  They had a great sale at Dillard's where the men’s shirts were get this 65% off then 60% off of that.  My husband went wild and got like 12 shirts for under $100.00.   I got two Marc Jacobs nail polishes this one and a purple one.   You’ll see it later in the week.  Plus, Victoria’s Secret had panties 7 for $26.00 and we found this really pretty quilt set at Macys.  We spent about $200.00.  I also ordered a purple dress from Zulily and just a basic black turtle neck.  It was a great day for the Greenberg's but after all the crap we have been through I really think we deserved this splurge.  The rest of the money goes into savings.  Everyone is happy.  So,  I have really been down and feel that some of my posts have been pretty maudlin so I decided to right a happy post because gratefully I am happy today and I hope this is just the beginning of a new period of happiness.
A lot has happened this month and while it is breast cancer awareness, ovarian cancer and Spanish heritage month it is also depression awareness month and I have been working on a post to sum up my year of living with depression.   But just because you suffer from depression does not mean you are sad all the time it just means that something in your brain does not create enough hormones to make you happy without some help but I’ll talk about that later.  I am living proof that you can be happy even with a disease that goes against you having those feelings.
So, this polish is Florescent Beige and it has the prettiest shimmer I just love it.  It is described as iridescent light mauve pink.   I was going to get Daisy but it was really kind of blah.  It was a flat beige pink but did not have the shimmer this one has you can see it in picture two and three.  I love my nudes and when they shimmer like this one, I love them even more.  So, I got this at Sephora, it did cost $18.00.  I also got Ultraviolet but I ordered it because if you are a beauty insider for the month of October you can go to Sephora’s website and they are offering all kinds of free stuff.  I got free shipping so I ordered Ultraviolet and one of the new Sephora Effects polishes.  So, those will be coming soon.  So, I am off to end my night with a great Lush bath, they have some really great new bath bombs, I still have some that I ordered from X-Mas last year.
Ciao for now,
Patty

Mish Mash Challenge A Book

Warning:  This post may offend some people.  I hope it is taken as just what it is going to be a post about a book.

When I saw the book challenge I always want to back out. The last one I did was a nightmare and this was easier but may deal with some controversial ideas.  When I was in college I had to take 12 hours of literature.  We had our choice of World 1 and 2, British 1 and 2, and American 1 and 2.  Well, I was sick of American history and wasn’t about to take a class to read stories about the revolutionary war.  I remembered in elementary school we took one semester of World geography and I just barely got by so I figured I would revisit World geography through Literature.  So, the very first book we read was quite a surprise to me but this was world literature and it started at the beginning  and when I say at the beginning I kind of mean “In the beginning”.   That’s right the first book we read was Genesis from the bible.  I found that odd being that I was going to a state school and felt it was religious but it is a part of historical world literature.  Everyone knows the story and everyone has their own thoughts on it and believe me in a room of people no matter what religion it was something we all shared.  We had a very progressive professor who challenged us to really think about what we were reading.  So, I thought this is a good book to do everyone knows it. Now, I don’t remember the order so I just put the important things in this manicure.  On the thumb you start out with a galaxy nail, then water with fish, plant life, animals, man (I went ahead and through women in there I think according to the story she was created after the seventh day.  I couldn’t find our bible)  but I drew the sign for man and women on the pinkie and then of course there is nothing else because on the seventh day was rest.  I know I missed a day I think it was the sun and the moon but five fingers didn’t give me room but no one said it had to be exact.  So, here my mani and that’s my story.

Mish Mash Challenge Triangles

Triangles….Brings back the worst memories in the world.  I actually took Trigonometry 2 times and failed it.  It kept me out of the field of pharmacology which is what I really wanted to do.  In hindsight, it was a good thing that I wasn’t a pharmacologist because I just love being a social worker.  Sometimes you’ve just got to follow the signs and failing Trig twice was my sign.  I am not even very good at drawing triangles built this is what I came up with.   I used a base of Cake Hole by butter London and then drew the lines to create triangles.  I wanted to make it a little interesting so I used my new ILove NP Cygnus Loop.  I don’t want to comment on the Cygnus Loop right now since I only used a little but it is very duochromatic.

Marc Jacobs Nail Polish

So, I was ordering some nail polish from Sephora, not knowing that now they carry the newest line of Deborah Lippman, Illamasqua, and Marc Jacobs.  Most Sephora’s in Houston only carry a limited amount of nail polish that is why I always order.  So, around two weeks ago I took a chance and found out that they had the whole line of Marc Jacobs in the store.  I was excited because I would not have to order.

This is the boxes they come in clean in black and white.

These are the bottles.

This is the first polish I got, it is called Oui.  A beautiful pink shimmer.  It has blue undertones and was easy to use.  It wasn’t streaky or anything other than smooth.  This is two coats with with a topcoat.  I liked this one so much I had to get some more.

This is a shimmery beige peach color called Le Charme.  This is a metallic that also went on very well on the first coat.  I wish I had been able to take pictures outside but we have had crappy weather in Houston these last couple of days.  This is a gorgeous color for winter and a wonderful formula which is usually hard to get in this type of polish.

What I am thinking is that if there is one high end polish you are going to get this fall this is the one.  I could not believe how beautiful it was until I put it on.  It is a bronze with some heavy purple undertones.  It is absolutely gorgeous.  It is called Petra.  I have only worn it for this swatch and cannot wait to wear it again.  I have been lax and not painting my nails everyday so next time I paint my nails this is what will be on it.  The formula is fine no streaking, two coats and topcoat and ready to go.

So, that is the start of my little Marc Jacobs collection.  I hope to get some more especially with gift giving season coming.  You can purchase these at Sephora for $18.00 a bottle and of course you can see more swatches at Marc Jacobs’ website.

Mish Mash Challenge Blue

Hello, I am back.  My doctor’s have encouraged me to continue doing my blog but not to the  point that I am losing sleep.  So, our challenge this week is the color blue.  I just really could not thing of any neat stamping to do so I decided to show the new Deborah Lippmann Stronger.  I am so glad that her polishes are going back to what that used to be that line with the little black dots just reminded me of gnats in nail polish.  This is a true Lippman, what we expect.  Lots of glitter, staying power and named after a song.  I put panties on using Zoya Song and then two coats of Stronger. It had a nice finish and with one coat of  Seche Vite it was pretty smooth.  Overall, if you like Lippmann’s glitter polish you will love this one.  The colors are vibrant and it has such great staying power.  So, let’s take a look at what the rest of the girls came up with.

Painted Sabotage: A Hidden Little Treasure

Every now and then I go on Etsy to see if there is anything new.  I found this polish and just fell in love with it but didn’t order because I had made several purchases during the month.  Every time I would go in I was totally drawn to this polish.  It is a mint colored crème with white, purple and some silver glitters.  I broke down because I saw another polish that I had wanted so much and could really kick myself  in the butt for never buying.  It was by KB Shimmer called Newspaper.  So, I bought this one which is called Gargle Blaster.

This is Zaphod’s Ego.  After placing my order I decided that I really wanted this one since I did  not have anything in a gold and this one is just so pretty with the purple glitters and gold glitters.  So, I sent the owner, (I can’t remember her name and it is driving me crazy) asking if I could get this gold Zaphod’s Ego instead of Gargle Buster.  One good thing about Etsy is that they do tell you how many bottles of polish are left so seeing that Zaphod’s Ego was selling quickly I figured I’d buy Gargle Buster on my next purchase.  To my surprise she included Zaphod’s Ego in my order.  I really love this polish and believe me the photos I got don’t do it justice.  This was the third set on the first set, I used Zoya’s Goldie as a panty and on the second I used OPI’s Glitzerland and it still wasn’t right.  So, I used no panties and it came out great because it doesn’t need panties because it is very pigmented and loaded with glitters and I love the purple glitter.  It is the perfect fall color or going out polish.  Honestly,  I haven’t worn it because I just swatched it but personally this is a polish that I think needs to be in your collection just for it’s versatility.  You can wear it with anything.  I have seen women dressed beautifully and then some horrid color of nail polish and then it just doesn’t matter it ruins the look.  I also have a thing about not wearing the right undergarments with clothes but I will discuss that in another post.  So, if you want that neutral gold for your wardrobe and don’t have one check this one out you won’t be disappointed.

Ok, this is the last one.  This one reminded me of Newspaper Print from KB Shimmer which I always put off buying for something else now I believe it is discontinued and there has been this empty spot on my polish shelves where it should have been.  Well, it is not empty anymore.  This totally satisfied my need with the red, black and white glitters against the grey polish it is just so pretty and I am so happy I bought it.  I was very satisfied with the pigmentation and the dry time.  I did wear this one and did get asked where I got this polish and I told the girl.  I don’t know if she bought it or not since she was to me a random stranger but if you longed for Newspaper Print and for whatever reason didn’t get it this will make up for it.  When I saw it I thought I am totally buying this right now.  No, ifs ands or buts.  I a very happy with this polish.

In conclusion I just want to say.  I am really picky when when it comes to indies but I am definitely adding this to my short list of favorites and I have tried a lot of indies but they just didn’t do it for me, this one did.  I hope that Painted Sabotage sticks around and can really grow as a company because I hate to compare but like KB Shimmer, nice owner and great polish and I  believe this little indie can have the same success and I do wish them that much success because they do offer a great product.

Ciao for now,

I know

I know I am kind of on a short break, but this post was lingering in my drafts an all I had to do was add the pics.  So, I really did not want to wait to publish it.

Comes A Time

As most of you know, I suffer from major depression, anxiety and PTSD.  Well, it seems there is something that can happen to depressed women Fibromyalgia.  For me my main symptoms are pain in my body and severe tiredness with sleep disturbances.  My vitamin D levels are so low my doctor says she has only seen this a couple of times plus my thyroid levels are all messed up.  I want to do things but can't.  So, for now I really need a break.  Any challenge I am doing I need to give up.  I will post when I can but it may be once a week or not at all for the next month.  I do have some great polishes and nail art that is sitting in my computer.  I just might turn into that person who just posts on Pinterest and Instagram.  This is really sad that my 600th post is this.  I just want to get back to my 30 posts a week.  So, don't forget me.  I will be reading blogs and comments.  So, this isn't good bye it is definitely.

August Favorites

August was a really slow month for me, mainly due to my husband’s surgery.  I think I did manage to get a few posts out that were kind of my favorites.  I know I have a huge August Haul.  So there are some of my favorites.

I wore this when I went to dinner with my daughter who was visiting and two of my girlfriends.  I just could not stop looking at the the sparkle of this glitter toppper from North Star Nails.

This was was one of the challenges of the Mish Mash challenge in doing a nail art technique you had never done.  I said I did not every really like newspaper nails but somehow this challenge changed my mind.

There were so many great polishes this month it was harder than usual to pick.  All the indies were great also.  So for September I have a huge haul so there are a lot of new things to see.
